Croatian pair Ivo Karlovic and Mario Ancic will be missing from the U.S. Open after failing to recover from injury. Karlovic underwent surgery on his left Achilles' tendon and hasn't played since May at the Madrid Masters, and Ancic has a back injury and will miss a seventh consecutive major. He also has not played since May. Their absence from New York means that Dustin Brown of Jamaica and Germany’s Tobias Kamke gain places in the main draw.
