Objectives for a 2.5 Player

1.      To become successful at your level & consequently advance to the 3.0 level, you have to conquer five tasks:

         ·        Develop Consistency
         ·        Directional Intent
         ·        Learn the Defensive Lob
         ·        How to Return High Balls
         ·        Learn Positioning

2.      Develop the proper form on your Groundstrokes & Service Motion.

3.      Learn to stroke within your power range.

Objectives for 3.0 Player

  1. You shore up the basics.
  2. Begin to learn the all court game
  3. Become aware of the more complicated strategies involved in playing tennis.
  4. Remember the basis is the foundation that makes the all – court game successful.
  5. Learning to volley.
  6. Learning what strategy to use once the ball is in play

Objectives for the 3.5 Player

  1. You have a fairly sound understanding of the fundamentals of stroking & strategy.
  2. Competition is becoming multidimensional.
  3. The way to combat the diversity of these specialists at this & subsequent levels is to diversity yourself.
  4. To be successful, you have to add specialized shots & strategies to your knowledge of the fundamentals of stroking & strategy.
  5. The fundamental includes more technical & mental aspects.
  6. You need the fundamentals, but you need to add more.
  7. You have to think offensively & defensively.
  8. You know when to attack, when to change your game plan, & when to retreat.
  9. You can’t be an one dimensional player at this stage.

Objectives for the 4.0 Player

  1. Dealing with the physical aspects, rather than strategic aspects, of increasing your inventory of shots, & refining the shots you already have, because the real difference between the 3.5 & 4.0 players are the ability to execute shots & strategic plans better.
  2. You have to execute better in all areas of your game.
  3. Able to recognize all the options associated with your situation – you don’t have to think about that your options are.
  4. You are able to hit basic shots associated with each of those options.
  5. The way you differentiate yourself is by playing better offensive & defensive tennis, hitting your shots with more confidence, & feeling more comfortable in all the doubles formations.

Objectives for a 4.5 Player

  1. Extensions of the 4.0 Player.
  2. Mental objectives are added & crucial at this stage – will determine how handle your match.
  3. Must play multidimensional to win your matches.
  4. Must have many ways as possible to beat your opponent.
  5. Execute better in all areas of your game.
  6. You have to add more aggressive shots to your repertoire.
  7. You have to shore up & better disguise your weaknesses, because your opponents are better able to take advantage of them.
  8. Eliminate your weaknesses & add to your strengths
