All players fought through record temperatures, and several top seeds also had to fight back against serious upset challenges on Day 2 of the 2010 US Open.

The upset bids began early in a sweltering Arthur Ashe Stadium where women's No. 4 Jelena Jankovic and No. 14 seed Maria Sharapova, as well as No. 3 seed Novak Djokovic fell behind early, but all battled back giving the fans 11 thrilling sets on Tuesday afternoon.

Other seeds stretched to the limit, but surviving on Day 2 were No. 8 Fernando Verdasco, No. 19 American Mardy Fish, No. 31 David Nalbandian, and 2004 Women's Champion No. 11 Svetlana Kuznetsova.

A few seeds were not so lucky to avoid first round upsets, as Arnaud Clement of France took out No. 16 seed Marcos Baghdatis and Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine ousted No. 8 seed Na Li of China.

A showcase of the 2010 No. 1 seeds, Rafael Nadal and Caroline Wozniacki headlined Night 2 at the US Open.  Nadal and Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili gave the fans quite a show, but in the end Rafa held on to advance in his quest to complete the career Grand Slam.
