Andy Roddick and Aquiss Beverage Technologies, Inc. announced a long term partnership for Roddick to exclusively use AQISS rehydration formulations on the ATP World Tour and to be the AQISS spokesperson in mass consumer media. To mark the beginning of this partnership, Andy and Aquiss Beverage Technologies, Inc. have collaborated to introduce two all natural hydration beverages, one specific to the needs of competitive athletes and one for everyday use. Andy has been using the AQISS Endurance and Hydration formulas since The 2010 Australian Open.
The AQISS scientific platform has been developed under the leadership of its Director of Scientific Affairs, Dr. Michael Fountain, PhD, MBA. AQISS is fully compliant with all professional and Olympic banned substance standards and will first be introduced into the Canadian market in May 2010 and is expected to be available in the United States by September. The USTA announced Bo Hodge and Chris Brandi have been chosen to lead the 2010 USTA Men’s and Jamea Jackson and Julia Scarince to lead the Women’s Summer Collegiate Teams, an elite training program for the top American collegiate tennis players that began in 1996 and is funded by the USTA.
The program is designed to provide players with valuable exposure to the USTA Pro Circuit in a team-oriented environment during the summer months. Jackson from Oklahoma State University and Scaringe from the University of Notre Dame will coach the women’s team, while the University of Alabama’s Bo Hodge and Chris Brandi from Baylor University, who also coached last year’s team, will lead the men’s team. The teams, which will feature 12 participants each for the second consecutive year, will be named after the NCAA Championships in May. Team members will be selected based on performance at those championships as well as the ITA All-Americans and National Indoor Championships, and the final ITA National Rankings. This summer, for the second straight year, USTA Player Development will host two Pro Tour Transition camps – one for the men, one for the women – for the selected players. The men’s camp will be held June 21-24 on clay courts in Boca Raton, Fla., while the women’s camp will be conducted June 27 – July 1 on hard courts in Boca Raton. The second semifinal, between Italy and Czech Republic to be played at the Foro Italico in Rome, features:

Murray was ranked no.2 in the world prior to last year’s US Open but is now down to a precarious no.4 made slightly safer by the two players right behind him, Juan Martin Del Potro and Nikolay Davydenko are nursing long-term wrist injuries. And since losing to Roger Federer, the Scot has experienced sub-standard loses in Dubai, Indian Wells and Miami. In his own view however he primarily believes he has allowed himself to get distracted by issues off the court and they in turn affected his appetite to play. Now after a period of reassessment following his failure to last beyond his first match in the defence of the Sony Ericsson Open title he won last year, Murray’s mind at least is moving in the right manner again. “I'm feeling a lot better than I did but I need to sort things out myself,” comes the insistence from Murray as he prepares to play his third Masters 1000 series event of the season at the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters after tournament director Zeljko Franulovic gratefully handed him a late wild card. “I took four or five days off after Miami, stayed there, practiced for a few days over there and I feel a lot better. I can't say 100% that I'm going to be great this week but I feel fine. I have practiced really well, a lot better than I have done the last month or so, and I have just got to play well in the matches, fight hard and compete. That's all I can do.” Issues over Britain’s Davis Cup team, including some damning comments from former captain John Lloyd who previously stated he perfectly understood why Murray wouldn’t want to play in the depths of Euro African Zone Group Two against Lithuania, have not helped Murray. Neither, it appears, has the aftermath of his relationship break-up with long term girl friend Kim Sears although the couple are reportedly on convivial terms again. “It's been a combination of a lot of things,” admitted Murray. “There was stuff that was going on off the court, and within tennis. A lot of stuff with the Davis Cup. I've said a few things about the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) and what is going on, and it's been constant. There's so much going on around tennis at the moment. "It's not just that but a lot of things that can be mentally draining and you can be subconsciously annoyed about or upset about and you need to make sure that you've got a clear head. “There's a lot of stuff that goes on, with the tennis and the matches and obviously things off the court can affect you. It happened to me a few times in juniors, when you're just not enjoying yourself on court and it's kind of hard to put your finger on it.” Murray has both regular coach Miles Maclagan and occasional advisor Alex Corretja – a situation many believe is potentially confusing for the 22 year-old, and he has semi-final points to defend after losing to eventual champion Rafael Nadal a year ago. “The guys that I work with, we know each other really well now and we spend a lot of time together,” he insisted. “They want me to win every tournament I play but it's not always about results. It's about being yourself on court, fighting hard, being in a good frame of mind and enjoying yourself, and for some reason that month in Indian Wells and Miami was not how I play on court, not really how I compete. I wasn't myself at all. It's not their fault.” 3b. Given yourself self – assessment and the advise your doctor, you need to setup a desirable, but realistic exercise regimen that addresses your individual needs.
Much of this plan should include cross training, running, biking, swimming, walking, and strength training are often part of the mix. Make certain that your plan is viable. You must be able to find time to do what you set out to do. It may mean rising a little earlier and getting out before you head work. The USTA announced Mary Carillo has been named President of USTA Serves – Foundation for Academics. Character. Excellence., the philanthropic and charitable entity of the USTA. In this role, Carillo will serve as the principle spokesperson for the 16-year-old Foundation and will augment its mission of changing lives through tennis and education. USTA Serves has disbursed over $10 million to fund hundreds of programs in more than 120 cities in 39 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. More than 150,000 children have received tennis, education, and health and wellness support, including more than 16 million hours of mentoring, tutoring and nutrition guidance. In addition, the Foundation has awarded more than 400 scholarships to college-bound students. Carillo will assume the role previously held by Patrick McEnroe. Prior to being named President of the Foundation, Carillo was elected to the USTA Serves Board of Directors, and since 2003 she also has served on the USTA Serves Professional Player Advisory Council. American Wayne Odesnik, who pled guilty to importing human growth hormone (HGH) into Australia just before the tournament in Brisbane, has denied taking performance enhancing drugs in a statement released through his attorney.
“The ITF is presently conducting an investigation of me regarding my possession of HGH while in Australia earlier this year,” said Odesnik, who is currently playing the US Men's Clay Courts in Houston. “I have never used nor taken HGH or any other banned substance in my life. I am fully cooperating with their investigation and I will have no further comment on the matter until it is concluded.” Odesnik could face a suspension of up to two years, but his fate is still undetermined as the ITF, which oversees the sport's anti-doping laws, is still investigating the matter and says that he is still allowed to compete because he's "entitled to due process under the Tennis Anti-Doping Program (TADP)." " He has not as yet been found guilty of a doping offense under the rules of the TADP and therefore is allowed to play,” the ITF said in a statement. “In order not to prejudice the player's ability to defend himself in his criminal case, the TADP decided to await the outcome of those proceedings rather than run concurrently, but began the process immediately once the decision of the Australian Court was taken," the ITF said. "The player is entitled to put forward a defense and this can take some time and he has elected not to take a provisional suspension. Whether or not we feel this is good for the image of tennis, he has that right and the ITF and ATP have an obligation to honor it. The TADP affords every player the right of due process. We believe that this is in the long-term best interests of everyone concerned." Odesnik has hired high-powered Miami defense attorney Christopher Lyons to represent him. Lyons is the same lawyer who defended Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth, who plead guilty to killing a pedestrian while driving drunk in Florida last year and served just over a month of jail time as well as paying restitution to the victims family, as well as former football Pro bowler Warren Sapp, who was arrested the day before the Super Bowl on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery, but was never prosecuted for a lack of evidence. After Odesnik defeated Jerzy Janowicz 6-3, 6-4 at the Men's Clay Courts on Monday, his young Polish opponent was none too pleased. “I think it's unfair to do something like this,” said Janowicz. “I think it's some kind of misunderstanding because for me, he shouldn't play at this moment. For sure he should be suspended. It's a bad feeling that he shouldn't play and have to play with that kind of guy. It's very tough to play with that kind of guy. Maybe I can ask to borrow that kind of thing that he's using.” Novak Djokovic announced today in Monte Carlo that he did not plan to continue his collaboration with Todd Martin who has been co-coaching him with Marian Vajda. “That’s the news, I am not going to continue working with Todd. I’m back with Marian. I have been with him all the time, he was all the time there. I tried to work with two coaches, but it didn’t work. Todd is a fantastic person, and he shared a lot with me, but it just didn’t work out in the end. We just separated with no hard feelings, and life goes on. I am now full time with Marian, and hopefully we can have a lot of success again.”
Asked whether he was being taught different things, Djokovic replied: “No, well, you always will have problems like that when you have two coaches. Even though they understood each other very well. Todd came a couple of months ago to our team, and faced a lot of difficulties you know to work on and off the court. It’s not an easy job definitely. He just didn’t have enough time to understand what I need what I do and how I am at the end, so life goes on.” Djokovic who seemed to have a lot of problems lately with a modified service motion said he was going to try to go back to the old one.
By Danielle Rossingh April 7 (Bloomberg) -- Martina Navratilova, a nine-time Wimbledon champion and former top-ranked tennis player, has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will start radiation treatment next month, she told People.com.
“I cried,” People.com cited the 53-year-old American as saying after finding out she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in February. A routine mammogram had revealed a cluster in her left breast. “I feel so in control of my life and my body, and then this comes, and it’s completely out of your hands,” Navratilova said. Navratilova, the winner of 18 singles and 41 doubles Grand Slam titles, has a non-invasive form of breast cancer, called ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). “The prognosis of someone with DCIS is excellent,” People cited Dr. Shelley Hwang, a breast surgeon at the University of California San Francisco, as saying. “There’s only a one percent change of anyone with this diagnosis would die of breast cancer.” |
